At the end of this course, the students; 1) Explain definition and the history of education for children with special needs. 2) Explain the causes of being handicapped, parent attitudes of handicapped children. 3) Be aware of the principles and use of inclusion in preschool and primary education period. 4) Explain the various types of handicaps, causes and incidence. 5) Explain the major concepts of education for children with special needs. 6) Develop a positive attitude towards people with special needs.

COURSE DEFINITION
Definition of special education, basic principles of special education, causes of disability, importance of medical
treatment and early diagnosis, historical approach to disability, the characteristics and education of children
with disabilities, physical, mental, emotional and social development during childhood, The child's socioemotional and cognitive development. The relationship of family structure and processes and particular
attention is given to different interaction styles and the development of personality, situation of special
education in Turkey, the foundations in Turkey.
