At the end of this course, the students; 1) Can discuss about the theories and researches about the self. 2) Gain the most up-to-date literature knowledge on other concepts related to the self-concept with a social psychological approach. 3) Acquire the ability to think about the process of self-development that continues throughout a person's life. 4) Get to know their own selves as much as possible. 5) Can evaluate and distinguish the role of culture on self.

COURSE DEFINITION | The concept of self is a broad topic of study which is researched by various scientific disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and psychology. In this course, the concept of self will be taken into account from a psychological perspective and self-models will be discussed in terms of their historical, sociological and cultural aspects. Also, the interaction between self and environment will be taken into account from the context of social comparison processes. The definition of self, its structure and different components will be discussed in this course, and the topics of the course involve the other concepts of self; such as self-awareness, symbolic interaction, self-esteem, self and information processing, self-presentation, self-regulation. |
