1) Learn the main concepts of sociolinguistics.
2) Learn how to analyze language in relation to society.
3) Understand the social motivation of language change and variants in languages.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course deals with the relationship between society and language. The main objective of the course is to discuss the problems of sociolinguistics such as multilingualism, local and social varieties in language, taboo in language, ways of addressing to people, language and gender, loss of language, language planning, the formation of standard language etc.
