LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) will obtain dual task skills involving both listening and conveying message to another language simultaneously.
2) will learn simultaneous interpreting strategies, such as generalisation, using phrases, eliminating and classification.
3) will gain knowledge of issues like interpreting cabin etiquette, knowledge of terminology, challenges encountered during simultaneous interpreting.

COURSE DEFINITIONBeginning with a theoretical introduction to the basic processes and strategies of simultaneous interpreting, the course proceeds with detailed explanations of techniques of simultaneous interpreting; knowledge and competencies required of a conference interpreter; terminological vocabulary in various areas; forming units of meaning; reformulation; simplification; omission; anticipation; explanation; numbers; how to deal with fast speakers; use of equipment; customer and booth etiquette. Students? knowledge is put into practice through exercises on audio recordings of authentic material on current topics.
