LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) will learn the use of language specific to science fiction and fantasy texts
2) will be able to comprehend linguistic and contextual properties of science fiction and fantasy texts,
3) will learn to act within the scope of the context and translate considering language and culture uses of fictive worlds.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course is to make students gain the necessary skills to translate texts belonging to science fiction and fantasy genres. The translations of science fiction and fantasy bear problems related with the special qualities of these genres themselves, therefore this course aims at providing students solutions within this context.

8th Week Midterm Exam
9th Week What are Fantastic texts and what are their properties?
10th Week The subgenres and language of Fantastic texts
11th Week Heroic and Sword and Sorcery texts and their translation
12th Week High/Epic and Low Fantastic texts and their translation
