At the end of this course, the students; 1) will develop awareness about confidentiality and codes of ethics existing in the translation process. 2) will be able to demonstrate knowledge gained in the field of ethics by applying them to sample cases and scenarios.

COURSE DEFINITION | This course aims to acquaint students with ethical issues in translation and interpretation studies in relation to diverse areas of specialization such as law, medicine, technology, diplomacy, etc. The course enables students to learn the codes of professional ethics of translating and interpreting which can be listed as follows: accuracy, confidentiality, competency, ethical and intellectual maturity, ethical decision-making, ethical exploration of conflicts of interests. The analysis and application of these basic ethical issues will be practiced in sample scenarios which will be used to develop the students? awareness of professional ethics. |
