At the end of this course, the students; 1) Gains knowledge about modern engineering materials and scientific foundations of material structures. 2) Have an ability to calculate machining and improvement speeds for specific applications. 3) Appropriate manufacturing process selection ability for a given specific part. 4) Understand basic product design and manufacturability. 5) Understand different machining operations and describe various machineries. 6) Gain an ability to mathematical models describing the processes are to be covered briefly in order to understand the relations between the parameters involved in the processes. 7) Understand the relative advantages/disadvantages of common machining manufacturing processes.

Foundry and Special Casting Processes: Sand casting, die casting, investment casting, centrifugal casting, Welding: Classification, arc welding, resistance welding, oxy-gas welding, other welding processes, Cold and Hot Working of Metals: Definitions, rolling, forging, extrusion, wire drawing, other plastic deformation processes, Sheet Metal Working: Piercing,/blanking, deep drawing, Powder Metallurgy: Powder production, pressing, sintering, applications, Metal Cutting: Cutting theory, cutting tools, chip formation, cutting fluids, machinibility, tool life, Metal Cutting Operations and machine tools: Turning, milling, drilling, grinding.
