LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Appreciate the role and rich diversity of nonprofits in Turkey and in the world and explore how nonprofits and for-profits compare and contrast
2) Get a feel for the nonprofit roles of CEO, fundraising, volunteer coordination and marketing/PR and grasp how to conduct research, position, brand and develop PR strategiesfor a nonprofit.
3) Understand the PR process within the framework of (new) media and work with a national NGO, to reinforce knowledge and experience.

COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week The definiton of civil society organizations and examining examples of civil society organizations from Turkey around the world.
2nd Week The definition of public relations,promotion and marketing, and examining the role of these into the non-governmental organizations.
3rd Week The basis of public relations planning process and strategic communication steps.
4th Week Identifying the target market research, message editing and enhancement.
5th Week Examining the non-governmental organizations within the framework of voluntariness and process to include communities in this frame.
6th Week Public relations planning tools, understanding the advertisement and identifying the right media channels.
7th Week Midterm
8th Week Basic public relations methods and tools
9th Week Identify how sector can support the civil society
10th Week Examining how to contact businesses and what to ask for
11th Week The new role of the media, in the NGO's public relations planning.
12th Week The new role of the media, in the NGO's public relations planning.
13th Week Creating a public relations plan for a selected real NGO.
