- Analyzing the emergence and development of sociology as a science.
- Recognizing distinctive schools of thought and theoreticians in the world and in Turkey in line with the multi-layered and multidimensional nature of social reality.
- Comparing and discussing the basic concepts whose definitions vary according to the presuppositions of different theoretical approaches within the multi-paradigm structure of sociology.
- Critically discussing the classical, contemporary and current theoretical and methodological approaches in sociology.
- Analyzing sociological research methods with different features, especially quantitative and qualitative research methods, applying the basic stages of the research and interpreting the data supported findings.
- Discussing social problems, differences and uncertainties in daily life from an intersectional and relational point of view.
- Analyzing the problem-oriented areas of sociology such as women, environment, immigration, health, crime as well as basic social institutions such as family, religion, and education.
- Establishing interdisciplinary relations with social sciences such as social psychology, psychology, logic, social anthropology, literature, politics, philosophy, education, economics, history, law, as well as with natural sciences, and arts such as music, painting and cinema.
- Conducting social responsibility projects and producing social policy proposals besides academic studies as a requirement of ensuring the integrity of sociological theory and practice.
- Recognizing the professional/occupational aspect of sociology and discussing employment areas and problems.
- Analyzing the social transformations that occur in parallel with technological innovations and resolving the theoretical and applied contributions expected from sociology.
- Being able to express oneself in English at an international level by having knowledge of a foreign language.
