COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week Introduction to Post-Tonal Theory I course. Basic concepts.
2nd Week Basic terms and definitions - 1: Octave equilzation, pitch class, enharmonic equilibrium, total notation, mod12, intervals, pitch intervals.
3rd Week Basic terms and definitions
4th Week Webern, Three Songs - "Wie bin ich froh!", Op. 25 Schoenberg, Pierrot Lunaire - "Nacht,", Op. 21
5th Week Pitch-class sets, normal form, transposition (Tn),inversion (TnI), index number (sum), other type of inversion.
6th Week "Set class. Prime form, segmentation and analysis. Schoenberg, Book of the Hanging Gardens, Op. 15, No. 11"
7th Week "Schoenberg, Book of the Hanging Gardens, Op. 15, No. 11 Bartok, String Quartet No. 4, I."
8th Week Bartok, String Quartet No. 4, I.
9th Week Common tones under transposition (Tn), transpositional symmetry, common tones under inversion (TnI), inversional symmetry.
10th Week Z-relation, complement-relation, subset and superset relations
11th Week Transpositional combinations, voice leading.
12th Week Webern, Movements for String Quartet, Op. 5, No. 4
