COURSE DEFINITION | This course aims to teach the major theoretical developments in the history of translation and interpretation studies with a particular emphasis on the contemporary theories of translation. The course focuses on the intersecting areas of language and culture, language and art, language and philosophy, and language and history in order to provide students with the knowledge of theoretical ideas that have influenced and are still shaping translating practice. Besides, in this course, students will be acquainted with the key elements of translation theory as well as with an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to translation process. Such an acquirement of knowledge will improve the students? translation skills by enabling them to develop a critical perspective on the process and product of translation. Students will also learn to put their theoretical knowledge into practice by applying translation theories to texts in various fields. |
