LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) know microscopic analysis in herbal crude drugs and identify the plants from their anatomic and morphologic properties.:
2) know how to distinguish the right medicinal plant in the powdered plant mixtures by checking the morphological and anatomical properties before appying the plant for medical purposes.
3) know the extraction and isolation methods in primary metabolites of the medicinal plants as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of total compounds.
4) know isolation and identification procedures of pure primary metabolites and knows the importance of them from safety aspect.
5) know how to search and report natural compounds and herbal medicines by checking pharmacopeia and monographs.
6) know how to study chromatographic and spectroscopic methods in plants and/or plant fractions and compare the results.
MODE OF DELIVERYFace to face
PRE-REQUISITES OF THE COURSENo
RECOMMENDED OPTIONAL PROGRAMME COMPONENTFarmasötik Botanik Uygulamaları
COURSE DEFINITIONStudents learn the morphologies and metabolites of main herbal medicines by using microskopic and chemical methods. They can improve their laboratory experience on herbal analysis and can compare the results with the theoretical knowledge. Also experimental analysis using Pharmacopeia methods will let them know the basic requirements in herbal medicines.
