COURSE DEFINITIONOccupational health and safety, laboratory safety, hazards and risks in the laboratory, general rules for a safe laboratory, laboratory safety equipment, safe working with chemicals, safe working with radioactive substances, biological pests and biosecurity

1st Week Laboratory design and organization
2nd Week Occupational health and safety / Definition, purpose, importance, laws, work accidents/occupational diseases
3rd Week Laboratory safety / Definition, purpose, importance, laws, regulations
4th Week General principles of providing a safe laboratory environment / Laboratory hazards and risks / Risks and coping with risks, precautions to be taken / Danger signs and plates / Risk assessment methods, checklists / Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
5th Week Laboratory safety rules / Personal safety: General rules to be followed in the laboratory / Laboratory safety: Cleaning of the laboratory work area, general rules to be obeyed in laboratory work
6th Week Laboratory safety equipments
7th Week Emergencies and accidents in the laboratory, and first aid
8th Week Midterm exam
9th Week Chemical safety
10th Week Chemical safety
11th Week Chemical safety
12th Week Chemicals to be considered in their use
