COURSE DEFINITION
The aim of this course is to teach students the basic language, concepts and processes of visual communication design and to equip them with the skills they will need to create meaningful visual messages. This course is the first of two semesters of basic design studio courses. Students are introduced to design elements and design principles by making applications related to visual design problems. Regular studio practices form the basis of the course in order to gain the habit of approaching design problems with an analytical perspective and making synthesis, finding creative solutions and understanding the basic framework of the effectiveness of visual design in communication. Another aim of this course is to enable students to acquire design skills that they can associate with various design problems they will encounter in other courses, and to be ready to use the technological tools they will use in the following years consciously and in control over these complex environments in accordance with their own purposes. In this course, it is aimed to teach the basic design elements and principles, to help students gain vision, perception, abstract thinking and problem solving skills, and to develop visual language and aesthetic sensitivity.
