COURSE DEFINITIONAt the end of this course, students learn the characters, plot and other structures used in cinema. Furthermore they understand the narratives of cinema by relating them to literary texts and they gain the skill to evaluate life with its tragic aspect.

4th Week Ancient Greek ? the dichotomy of Apollo and Dionysus
5th Week Odyssey and Sirens
6th Week Murder of father - Oidipus
7th Week Film Screening & Discussing: Edipo Re (Pasolini, 1968)
8th Week Concept of Scapegoat & ritual of sacrifice
9th Week The archetypes launched the modern human: Sisyphus & Prometheus
10th Week Moral problem in the context of tragic thought / purification from Good and Bad
11th Week Universal circle of the Hero: seperation-ripen-return
12th Week Natural Law / power and right
13th Week Film Screening: Apocalypse Now (Coppola, 79)
