At the end of this course, the students; 1) Learn the theories and research relevant to the self. 2) Learn the recent literature on the self-related concepts from social psychological perspective. 3) Think about the issues on how the self develops throughout the life span. 4) Know thyself possibly.

COURSE DEFINITION | Self is a broad concept studied by different disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, psychology. Within the scope of this course, self is analyzed from social psychological perspective and the models of self are discussed by considering historical, sociological and cultural contexts. Additionally, the interaction of self and context is emphasized by taking into account social comparison processes. The definition, the structure and different aspects of self are the topics covered in this course. Also, related concepts with `self? such as self-consciousness, symbolic interaction, self-esteem, self and information processing, self-regulation, are the topics discussed in this course. |
