LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT	At the end of this course, the students; 1) To identify semantic characteristics particular to languages 2) To evaluate sense-relations based on paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations 3) To identify semantic relations 4) To define, classify and distinguish sense relations 5) To discuss the de Saussurean principle of sign and Ogden & Richards semiotic triangle in detail 6) To distinguish meaning from concept

COURSE DEFINITION	History of semantics , its place in linguistics, explanation of key concepts related to semantics, semantic features of Turkish language(lexis, sentential), framework of meaning, semantic processes , formal semantics; word, concept, meaning, scope; synonymy,antonymy, heteronymy; polysemy; diachronische semantics, semantic change, semantic extension, semantic restriction, metaphor, metonym and similar rhetorics.
