At the end of this course, the students; 1) Understand basic concepts related to distance education, 2) Relate known learning theories and instructional methods with distance education, 3) Gain knowledge about the history of distance education in Turkey and in the world, together with some specific projects of several countries, 4) Learn the techniques and methods to deliver a course via distance education technologies, 5) Learn organizational and classroom management issues in open and distance education applications, 6) Gain knowledge about the features of learning and content management systems used for delivering content through internet-based technologies, 7) Use related software/systems to prepare interactive content for e-delivery, 8) Create course materials by using distance education software, 9) Gain knowledge on main theory behind MOOCs-Massive Online Open Courses and their applications throughout the world.

Basic concepts and philosophy of open and distance learning; development of distance learning in the world; development of distance learning in Turkey; roles of learners and facilitators in distance learning; technologies used in distance learning, management of open and distance learning; class management and its? elements in distance learning, sources of open education and trends in the world; massive open online courses MOOCs; individualized learning environments; problems and solutions of open and distance education; teacher training practices with open and distance education; development of instructional material through open and distance learning and support services for students; determination of instructional strategies for different learning cases; research and evaluation in distance learning.
