LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Get information about childhood starting from infancy to the adolescence and about the nature of child development and socialization.
2) Learn to employ a new perspective of Sociology of Childhood, which assumes that children are passive participants starts from the assumption that children are active participants who both shape and are shaped by their social world.
3) Could analyze childhood as a phenomenon through classicand modern theories.
4) Could critically examine the latest debates and studiesin the field of childhood sociology, thus could contribute shaping current and/or future child policy.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course explores childhood, from infancy to adolescence, and the nature of children's development and socialization. While the subject of the course covers the institutions and social factors that shape the child, it focuses on the new Childhood Sociology perspective, which assumes children as active participants who are both shaped by and shape the social world, rather than as passive participants. This course will also contribute to the determination of current or future child policies by focusing on the future of childhood.
