At the end of this course, the students; 1) interpret Jewish American authors' works within a historical, social, and cultural framework, 2) analyze thematic and stylistic features of Jewish American authors? works, 3) identify Jewish American history, the concepts of migration and migrant identity, 4) discuss how literary texts approach multi-culturalism as an aspect of American culture.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to survey Jewish American culture, experience and identity through an analysis of Jewish American history and literature. Among the authors to be studied are Saul Bellow, Joseph Heller, Bernard Malamud, Philip Roth, and Anzia Yezierska.
