At the end of this course, the students; 1) interpret Hispanic American authors' works within a historical, social, and cultural framework, 2) analyze thematic and stylistic features of Hispanic American authors' works, 3) identify Hispanic American history, the concepts of migration and migrant identity, 4) discuss how literary texts approach multi-culturalism as an aspect of American culture.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to survey Hispanic American culture, experience and identity through an analysis of Hispanic American history and literature. Among the authors to be studied are Luis Valdes, Sandra Cisneros, Gloria Anzaldua, Rudolfo Anaya, Julia Alvarez, and Junot Diaz.
