At the end of this course, the students; 1) interpret Asian American authors' works within a historical, social, and cultural framework, 2) analyze thematic and stylistic features of Asian American authors' works, 3) identify Asian American history, the concepts of migration and migrant identity, 4) discuss how literary texts approach multi-culturalism as an aspect of American culture.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to survey Asian American culture, experience and identity through an analysis of Asian American history and literature. Among the authors to be studied are Maxine Hong Kingston, Hisaye Yamamoto, Bharati Mukherjee, Jhumpa Lahiri, Amy Tan, and Cathy Park Hong.
