At the end of this course, the students; 1) attain an awareness of the issues of gender and identity that women writers explore in their literary works, 2) identify the historical, social, intellectual, cultural and artistic contexts in which women's literary works are produced, 3) obtain the ability to distinguish the distinctive characteristics of a variety of genres employed, revised and produced by women writers, 4) apply American feminist literary criticism to American women's writing.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to trace the traditions of American women's writing from the colonial era to the present day. It focuses on the various genres women writers have adopted to express their historical, social, political, ethnic, and individual concerns, and explores the ways in which they resist and subvert the traditional gender roles.
