At the end of this course, the students; 1) differentiate between the genres of graphic narratives, 2) discuss graphic narratives in the light of broader topics including race, gender, health, and civil rights, 3) draw a relation between the ideology implied in the graphic narrative and the socio-historical developments in American culture, literature, and history.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course introduces the historical development of graphic narrative in America and the representations of the social and historical developments that constitute the foundations of American culture in different types of graphic narratives.
