At the end of this course, the students; 1) Explain the history and contemporary analysis of popular culture in America. 2) Relate popular culture to broader social, cultural, and political contexts. 3) Critically analyze popular culture in relation to everyday life. 4) Discuss themes related to popular culture in both written and oral form.

COURSE DEFINITION | This course provides students with a critical approach to the study of popular culture. It explores social, political, historical, and economic contexts of popular culture through various media forms such as film, television, music, video games, the Internet, and fashion, to understand how the production and consumption of popular culture shapes and is shaped by ideologies. |
