General Information

Medical Microbiology is the fastest growing scientific field among the fields of medicine. New developments emerging from the use of new molecular techniques, biochemical applications, has made Microbiology an active area of medicine. Infectious diseases are most common group of clinical cases that every physician will see during their medical life. The diagnosis process of infectious diseases is very problematic. The clinical profile of the patient must be assessed carefully and the clinical symptoms must be correlated with the laboratory results. Our mission is to educate our students with the necessary microbiological informations that they can correlate with clinical findings.

Medical Microbiology Department was founded in 1998 by Prof. MD. Hande Arslan at the Başkent University Bağlıca Campus. Then Prof. MD. Füsun Can, Prof. MD. Jülide Sedef Göçmen and Prof. MD. Müge Demirbilek Ekici were the directors respectively. Currently, Prof. MD. Ahmet Celal Başustaoğlu is the director of the department. The Department of Medical Microbiology is continuing its education and research activities at the Ankara Bağlıca Campus and its routine laboratory service at the Adana Hospital and Research Center.
