Bu dersin sonunda öğrenciler; 1) Sosyal Bilim Felsefesinin genel bir haritasını eleştirel bir gözle çizme becerisi geliştirir. 2) Alana katkıda bulunacak ve var olan çalışmaları eleştirel şekilde değerlendirecek şekilde sosyal bilim felsefesi alanında bireysel değerlendirme ve araştırma becerilerini geliştirir. 3) Sosyal Bilim Felsefesi alanında değerlendirilebilir şekilde hazırlanmış kuramsal bir makale yazımı yeteneğini geliştirir.

DERS TANIMI
Bilim, varsayımlarda bulunmayı, kestirim yapmayı, ölçmeyi ve biriktirdiği bilgileri yol gösterici kuramlara dönüştürmeyi öngörür. Bilim felsefesi ise, bilimin bu işleri nasıl yaptığı ve bu çalışmaların nasıl sonuçlar doğurduğuyla ilgilenir. Bilim felsefesi kendi işini yaparken metafiziği, bilgi kuramını ve dil-bilim ilişkilerini derinliğine irdeler. Bazı farklı düşünenler olsa da, bilimi düşünme yetisinin dışında tutamayacağımıza göre, bilim kişilerinin deyişiyle "felsefesiz bilim olmaz," yaklaşımı doğru bir tutumdur. Sosyal bilimlerin doğa bilimleri karşısında meşruiyet kazanma uğraşı doğrudan sosyal bilim felsefesine de yansımaktadır. Bu nedenle sosyal bilim felsefesi, sosyal bilimler ile doğa bilimleri arasındaki benzerlikleri ve farklılıkları ele alır.
