Profile of the Programme
Today, Insurance is considered to be the protection of individuals and organizations against the risks that have and also the management of these risks. It is known that the insurance sector has made progress and spread into international sphere. Therefore, our country has to catch up with the developments in this field and reach the same competitive level with other countries. Our department aims educating qualified employees who have sufficient knowledge about constructing a healthy structured insurance sector. Based on these grounds, Insurance Department offers a 4-year undergraduate education in line with the mission and vision of Başkent University. The language of instruction is Turkish. However, courses in English continue throughout the entire education for students to maintain their professional relations since the insurance sector has international characteristics. In the first two years of the programme, basic calculus, computer, economy and administration based courses are offered. The basic knowledge of insurance is provided and easy and quick understanding of advance insurance courses for students is aimed with these courses. In the last two years of the programme, some vocational courses such as Life and Non-life Insurance I - II, Reinsurance, Risk Management, Marketing and Sales Techniques in Insurance, Insurance Law, Insurance in European Union, Claims and Benefit Practices in Insurance, Actuarial Mathematics, Insurance Statistics and Risk Analysis are offered. The insurance education in the country and the current situation of the insurance sector were taken into account during the formation of the course content. As well as the course contents of foreign universities which are successful in the field. With the aim of providing students the necessary knowledge about and familiarity with the insurance sector before their graduation, they are given the opportunity to do 30 days summer internship and also, at the 8th semester of the program they do mandatory job training. Students do their internships especially at life and non-life insurance companies, the regional or head offices of pension companies, insurance agents, risk management companies and social security institutions. |
