LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) will be able to acquire skills necessary for evaluating coursebooks and language teaching materials in current textbooks
2) will be able to evaluate the appropriacy of materials with regard to the target audience and adapt them accordingly
3) will be able to examine the current approaches in material development
4) will be able to learn the approaches and techniques of materials selection, evaluation, adaptation and development

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course aims at enabling students to evaluate, adapt and develop materials in foreign language teaching. It also aims at equipping students with the necessary skills to evaluate coursebooks.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction to the course and its requirements; Introducing National English Language Curriculum (primary, secondary, and high school) and English course books suggested by MoNE
2nd Week Principles for effective ELT/EFL materials; Current approaches to material design & syllabus types
3rd Week Designing materials and supplementation (Four Skills) +cultural awareness
4th Week Student Short Material Swapshop
5th Week Evaluating, adapting and designing online, electronic, mobile materials
6th Week Student presentations on the evaluation of electronic materials
7th Week Evaluation: The need to evaluate textbooks- Evaluation types and principles of material /textbook evaluation
8th Week Evaluation: Teachers? Books, Evaluation criteria and surveys, using the results of evaluation, piloting
9th Week Evaluating course books in terms of materials for teaching grammar and vocabulary
10th Week Evaluating course books in terms of materials for teaching listening and speaking
11th Week Evaluating course books in terms of materials for teaching reading and writing
12th Week Evaluating coursebooks in terms of cultural aspects
