1) discuss the use of English as a lingua franca and the different varieties of English in the world
2) define the reflections of English as an international language in English language teaching and teacher education
3) discuss the role of culture in language teaching
4) evaluate the cultural elements by analyzing materials such as course-books, literary texts, movies, TV programs and advertisements

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course focuses on the use of English as an international language; English as a common language and the different varieties of English in the World; the reflection of English as an international language in English language teaching and teacher education; developing students? awareness of the relation between language and culture and the analysis of the place of culture in language teaching; evaluating the cultural elements by analysing materials such as coursebooks, literary texts, movies, TV programs and advertisements
