At the end of this course, the students; 1) will learn fundamental concepts in second language acquisition (SLA) which revolve around the following: The nature of learner language, that is; interlanguage, Social, discoursal, psycholinguistic and linguistic aspects of interlanguage, Individual Differences in L2 Acquisition and Instruction in L2 Acquisition. 2) will be aware that second language acquisition is a process different from first language acquisition and has implications on language learning and teaching.

COURSE DEFINITION
Theories of first and second language acquisition (behaviorism, naturalism, information processing etc), development and stages of first and second language acquisition, case studies, comparative analysis of first language and second language use of children and adults by analyzing whole data; the records of classroom interaction of second language use, stages of first language acquisition, form and syntactic developmental stages in second language acquisition, stages of second language acquisition, learner characteristics in second language acquisition (For example, character, ability, intelligence,age, motivation and aptitude, learner preferences and beliefs), contextual differences in first and second language acquisition (i.e. natural environment and classroom language)
