At the end of this course, the students; 1) discuss the relationship between lexical items and structural forms 2) discuss affective meaning: attitudinal and emotional factors (denotation and connotation), levels of formality, contexts and topics, differences in geographical variation- style, register, dialect, 3) discuss certain differences and similarities between the native and the foreign language (e.g. false cognates); chunks of language: multi-word verbs, idioms, strong and weak collocations, lexical phrases; grammar of vocabulary
