At the end of this course, the students; 1) Learn what documentary cinema is; together with its codes and conventions.various film examples, 2) Gain ability to discuss the reality claim of documentary cinema by critically approaching the division between fiction and non-fiction, 3) Understand the historical evoluations and divergent forms of documentary cinema by focusing on the various films.

COURSE DEFINITION
The features that differentiate the documentary film from other cinema productions constitute the scope of the course. The phases of the documentary film from its beginning to the present and the emerging genres and theories form the framework of the course subjects. Students watch a large number of documentary films from the first productions of documentary films to current productions.
