COURSE DEFINITION
Today, new media and new media environments have become an integral part of daily life. It has almost completely taken the throne of traditional media and traditional media texts, especially for Generations Z and Alpha. The new generations prefer the new media environments, which they feel they can control in every aspect and which they can enter with their interaction possibilities, over the traditional media environments where they remain only in the position of spectators.
Therefore, this new trend regarding new media has brought various effects and results on societies, cultures and individuals. Within the scope of the course, first of all, new media and new media environments will be defined, and their differences from traditional media will be discussed. In particular, phenomena such as user, user-derived content creation, participatory culture and producer-consumer phenomenon, collective intelligence, new media ecosystem in the cultural context, digital inequality and differences between generations will be discussed conceptually and theoretically.
