LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Knows the basic theory, indications and contraindications related to reflex, mechanical, physiological and clinic related to mobilization and manipulation techniques and transverse friction massage
2) Clinical decision making and application for mobilization, manipulation techniques and the use of transverse friction massage in various diseases
3) Understand the examples of treatment protocols and make the application by choosing the most appropriate technique for the patients

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course include the principals of orthopedic physiotherapy, advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology and mechanical disturbances of the intervertebral mobile segment, essentials of manual therapy, direct and indirect manipulation techniques and sample protocols of therapeutic sessions. In addition, we thougt the practical applications of Dr. Cyriax's orthopedic manipulative therapy approach. Dr Cyriax's orthopedic medicine treatment techniques include transvers friction massage, grade A, grade B and, grade C mobilization techniques and traction.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction to orthopedic manipulative treatment techniques. Mode of action of transvers friction massage (TFM). Principles of application of TFM. Indications for and against TFM.
2nd Week Upper extremity TFM aplications.
3rd Week Lower extremity TFM applications.
4th Week Review and case discussion.
5th Week Midterm.
6th Week Introduction to spinal mobilization and manipulations. Review of spinal functional anatomy, essentials of manual medicine, nomenclature of manipulation and manipulative prescription, indications and contraindications to manipulations.
7th Week Practical applications of cervical region mobilization and manipulation.
8th Week Practical applications of tempromandibuler joint mobilization and manipulation.
9th Week Practical applications of upper extremity mobilization and manipulation.
10th Week Practical applications of lower extremity mobilization and manipulation.
11th Week Practical applications of lumbar, sacral and thoracic region mobilization and manipulation.
12th Week Review and case discussion.
13th Week Midterm.
14th Week To compose treatment protocols about mobilization, manipulation techniques and transverse friction massage for different diseases and discussion of application proposal.
