LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) To know definitions about therapeutic massage, effects on body systems, indications and contraendications
2) Have knowledge about soft tissue mobilizations and their effects
3) Determines the appropriate massage methods according to the individual and the condition of the individual and makes clinical decision
4) Applies soft tissue mobilization, connective tissue mobilization, and therapeutic massages

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course reviews basic knowledge in mechanical, physiologic, and neurophysiologic effects of therapeutic massage techniques and their practical applications. Course contents divided into the therapeutic soft tissue massage and connective tissue massage (Bindegewebsmassage) methods. We explain the principles of massage techniques discuss the physiologic mechanism of why massage therapy is beneficial, develop a basic understanding of pathology and its connection to contraindications to massage. In addition, we thouht to modify existing connective tissue massage and therapeutic massage techniques to specifically address various disorders.

WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Definition of massage, history, general principles, mechanical, physiological, reflex and psychological effects, indications and contraindications.
2nd Week Upper and lower extremity massage.
3rd Week Waist, back and neck massage.
4th Week Abdominal and facial massage.
5th Week Review and case discussion.
6th Week Midterm.
7th Week Definition, history, effects, indications and contraindications of connective tissue massage.
8th Week Practical application of connective tissue mobilization of lumbosacral, lower thoracic and scapular regions
9th Week Interscapular, cervical, occipital connective tissue mobilization.
10th Week Connective tissue mobilization of the upper and lower extremities.
11th Week Connective tissue mobilization of pelvic, abdominal, thoracic and facial regions.
12th Week Review and case discussion.
13th Week Midterm.
14th Week Practical application of connective tissue mobilization of lumbosacral, lower thoracic and scapular regions
