COURSE DEFINITIONHENG 244 is an English for Specific and Academic Purposes course at B1+ level, whose pre-requisite course is HENG 243. The course is designed to improve four main skills and academic and discipline-related language in an integrated manner. Learners are encouraged to study independently and apply the course content to their chosen discipline.

2nd Week Unit 7: Listening- Understanding speaker emphasis
3rd Week Unit 7: Speaking ? Asking for clarification and responding to queries
4th Week Unit 8: Reading- Practising reading skills with focus on language use
5th Week Unit 8: Writing- Recognizing different academic essay types and structures
6th Week Unit 9: Listening- Using different note-taking systems
7th Week Unit 9: Speaking- Making effective contributions to a seminar and referring to other peoples? ideas in a seminar
8th Week Unit 10: Reading- Recognising the writer?s stance and level of confidence or tentativeness, Inferring implicit ideas
9th Week Unit 10: Writing- Writing different types of academic essays by using direct quotations and compiling reference list
10th Week Unit 11: Listening- Recognising the speaker?s stance, Writing up notes in full
11th Week Unit 11: Speaking- Building an argument in a seminar (Agreeing/ Disagreeing)
12th Week Unit 12: Reading- Understanding how ideas in a text are linked
13th Week Unit 12: Writing- Writing research reports
