1) Develop a theoretical and critical perspective on the relationship between art and communication.
2) Analyze the structural tools used in the production of works of art.
3) Develop an analytical approach to art and power in relation to other disciplines.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of this course is to examine the relationship between art and communication, to learn the historical context of artistic production forms, and to establish the connection between art, society, power, and aesthetic judgments.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Course Introduction & Meeting.
2nd Week The Relationship between Art-Communication and Artistic Communication
3rd Week Ancient Greece and today. Tragedy and popular narratives.
4th Week Basic concepts of classical narrative: Anagnorisis, peripeteia, catharsis, knot, solution.
5th Week Structural analysis in narrative: Morphology of the tale.
6th Week Picture: Las meninas and monarchical power.
7th Week Power, bio-power concepts and art.
8th Week Midterm Exam
9th Week Reasons for judgments of taste: Sociological context
10th Week Judgments of taste: Cultural capital, habitus.
11th Week Conspicuous consumption. Society of the spectacle, Veblen, deBord.
12th Week Art and industry. Culture industry.
13th Week Contemporary theories. Is videography the new art?
14th Week General review.
