RECOMMENDED OPTIONAL PROGRAMME COMPONENTThe entire curriculum of the academic year
COURSE DEFINITIONThis course reviews the basic principles of development of disease and specific immune system responses and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of the therapeutic agents. This course is carried out with the co-operation of Physiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Medical Biology, Biophysics, Microbiology and Radiology Departments.
COURSE CONTENTSIn this course, the students will be informed about the basic mechanisms in the development of diseases; structure, general properties, classification of bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites; the relationship between humans and microorganisms, pathogenesis of infectious diseases and the diseases caused by microorganisms. Also, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, antimicrobial agents, autacoids, drug-drug interactions, adverse and toxic effects of drugs will be mentioned. Physical, biological, chemical, immunological, genetic and pathological basis of diseases will be mentioned. Approaches about diagnostic/therapeutic methods and disease prevention will also be mentioned in the context of these basis.
