At the end of this course, the students; 1) Knows computer network concepts and classes. 2) Learns the basic principles of communication between networks. 3) Explains the network layers and their functions. 4) Knows the protocols in the network layers, their properties and how they work. 5) Knows the physical infrastructures used in the network. 6) Analyzes the problems that arise in the network and seeks solutions.

COURSE DEFINITION
5 layer internet network model. Basic network classifications. HTTP, SMTP, FTP, DNS application layer protocols, TCP and UDP, Secure data transfer. Basic network routing algorithms and protocols, RIP, OSPF, BGP. IP version 4 and 6. Mobile IP. Basic shared media protocols at Data Link layer, MAC addressing. Aloha and Ethernet, 802.11 radio communication. Switch, hub and bridge applications and network topologies.
