At the end of this course, the students; 1) Knows different film analysis methods. 2) Watch cult examples from world and Turkish cinema and gain an idea about these films. 3) Learn and distinguish the narrative construction methods of films. 4) Gain the equipment to make connections between cinema and other disciplines.

General information about the course. Discussion about film analysis and film criticism.
2nd Week
What is film narrative and how is it created? Separation of form and content. What is to be told and how is it told?
3rd Week
What are cinematographic elements and what are the possibilities of using these elements in the context of creating narrative and creating meaning in films? Watching and analyzing sample films.
4th Week
What are cinematographic elements and what are the possibilities of using these elements in the context of creating narrative and creating meaning in films? (Analysis based on light use and lighting methods). Watching and analyzing sample films.
5th Week
Creating meaning through editing and discussion and analysis of different editing styles through sample films.
6th Week
Analysis of the possibilities of using sound and music elements in the context of creating narrative and creating meaning in films, through sample films.
7th Week
MIDTERM EXAM: Students are asked to analyze the technical elements of a movie they have chosen.
8th Week
Semiotic film analysis and Auteur approach.
9th Week
Psychoanalytic film analysis

Ideological film analysis

Sociological film analysis
