COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course; The basic claims of modernism and post-modernism will be learned and the course will be conducted through critical analysis. In this course, students will read modernist and postmodernist texts focusing on the concept of time and its relationship with narrative, history, memory and authority on important modern art works and will experience methods of making aesthetic readings.

2nd Week The origin of the concept of modernism: Modernus.
3rd Week The relationship between modernity and art.
4th Week Founding of fine arts: The first modernization in art.
5th Week Consequences of the French Revolution: The relationship between state and art; The birth of the concept of the nation state.
6th Week Consequences of the French Revolution: The relationship between state and art; The birth of the concept of the nation state.
7th Week Romanticism and the independent artist problem: Artist, power and freedom.
8th Week Midterm.
9th Week Baudelaire and modernism: the autonomy of the artist.
10th Week Baudelaire and modernism: the autonomy of the artist.
11th Week Avant-garde art movements: Dadaism and art.
12th Week Avant-garde art movements: Surrealism and art.
13th Week Emergence of postmodernism: Discussing the ideal of modern art.
