1) Gain knowledge of the social atmosphere that forms the core of 20th century art,
2) Recognize and distinguish the names and movements that left their mark on the art of the 20th century,
3) Know and discuss the connection between art and social structure.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course is to introduce modern art and philosophy of art to the students; thus, to provide the necessary infrastructure for contemporary art discussions.

1st Week Meeting and General Information About the Course. Introduction to Modernism and the Modernist Movement in Art.
2nd Week The World of the Late 19th and 20th Centuries, Perspective of Human and Art.
3rd Week Realism and Abstraction Discussions in Modern Art.
4th Week Movements: Fauvism and Henri Matisse
5th Week Movements: Expressionism and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
6th Week Movements: Cubism and Pablo Picasso
7th Week Midterm
8th Week Movements: Futurism and Umberto Boccioni
9th Week Movements: Abstract Art and Wassily Kandinsky.
10th Week Movements: Dadaism
11th Week Movements: Constructivism
12th Week Movements: Socialist Realism
13th Week Movements: Surrealism and Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte.
14th Week Final
