1) Become familiar with the concepts of culture, identity and design as well as the relationships between these concepts,
2) Recognize the climate of thought and emotion that reveals the designs,
3) Consciously reflect their cultural frame of reference and identity into their designs.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course is; to consider cinema as a "way of seeing" and to reveal the cultural codes behind cinematic narratives. In this context, the concept of representation in cinema will be discussed and the reflections of the screen will be sought in the individual and collective memory. During this quest, it will be learned how visual design elements such as light, color, form and space should be handled in terms of the construction of narrative and meaning.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Meeting; Sharing of course content and general introduction. Discussion about the concepts of culture, identity and design.
2nd Week Framing design culture with history: the changing content of design and culture from past to present.
3rd Week Industrial revolution, capitalism and identity. Reflection of the founding elements of identity and culture to art in the new world.
4th Week Art environments transformed by World Wars. Society, technology and design in the 20th century.
5th Week Turkish modernization and Early Republican Period identity structure, design concept.
6th Week A close look at the design cults.
7th Week Nationalization and design. Exemplary structures and artifact reviews.
8th Week Midterm
9th Week Nationalization and design. Everyday life investigations: houses, kitchens, clothes, meals?
10th Week Nationalization and design. A look at Ankara's lost cultures: Traces of Greeks, Armenians and Jews.
11th Week Jewish Quarter Tour
12th Week Museum trip
13th Week Discussion and general review on cultural identity and design in the 21st century.
14th Week Final
