LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Recognizes the concept of new media within the framework of the socio-cultural transformations it creates,
2) It deals with the reality debates that come into our lives with the new media from different dimensions,
3) Analyzing and interpreting the changing daily life with new media,
4) Thus, it can produce much more conscious and effective designs for the digital world.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course is; The aim is to provide students with relevant information and vision about the socio-cultural dimension and current debates of the new media. Thus, it will be ensured that they are aware of the secrets and limits of the digital world; The transformation created by the developments in technology not only in a limited area, but also in all of our habits from a to z will be revealed. Knowing the new media in terms of its effects will make it possible to make competent and appropriate designs for the "virtual" world. Homework will be prepared from 4 books that must be read within the scope of the course.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction and general information about the course. Introduction to basic concepts. What is new media? The general characteristics of the new media and its socio-cultural difference from the traditional media.
2nd Week New media and new world order: Technopoli.
3rd Week New media and the internet of things: Smart devices, robotized people. Division of labor, specialization and alienation. The changing value of information.
4th Week New media and advanced capitalism: Disappearing frontiers in production and consumption.
5th Week New media and leisure: Time management and freedom.
6th Week New media and digital communities: The return from community to community.
7th Week Midterm.
8th Week Reality debates in new media I: Simulacrum and simulation concepts, loss of reality principle and introversion.
9th Week Reality debates in new media II: Post Truth and politics.
10th Week Reality debates in new media III: Digital footprint and digital panopticon.
11th Week Reality debates in new media IV: Social networks and digital identities.
12th Week Reality debates in new media V: Cyborg bodies, stereotyping and desexualization.
13th Week Reality discussions in new media VI: Virtual spaces, real relationships. Digital dating.
14th Week Final.
