LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Distinguish between pixel based graphics and vector graphics.
2) Gains the ability to use Adobe Photoshop software in visual communication projects.
3) Uses Photoshop to combine different images to create a new image.
4) Determines the Photoshop techniques that can be applied to digital images.
5) Adjusts the dimensions of the images they prepared on the computer, according to the environment which they will be published.
6) Creates digital collage examples and design.
7) Uses the image processing programs effectively to execute their ideas.
8) Follows the developing and changing technology and chooses the appropriate one.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of this course is to teach the students the design tools in digital environment and improve their visual literacy and creativity in design. This course aims to develop the necessary technical and mental skills in one of the most popular image processing programs, Adobe Photoshop. Students, by practicing design and image creation techniques, will be able to interpret design problems given during the course and produce visual solutions.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Course presentation, explaining the information about the course application and evaluation.
2nd Week Discussion about visual communication and its development process.
3rd Week Vector, bitmap, pixel and other basic computer graphics concepts, general presentation of the software programs used in desktop publishing.
4th Week Digital image formats and their properties, basic concepts related to image size, print quality, pixels and resolution. Working with files and documents in Adobe Photoshop software.
5th Week Introduction to Photoshop program interface. Navigation, menus and panels in Photoshop.
6th Week Selection tools and their features, decoupage practices.
7th Week Working with layers in Adobe Photoshop.
8th Week Digital painting and retouching in Photoshop.
9th Week Midterm
10th Week Color selection options. Color corrections and filters. Color editing practices.
11th Week Masking in Adobe Photoshop.
12th Week Advanced applications in Adobe Photoshop software.
13th Week Advanced applications in Adobe Photoshop software.
14th Week Advanced applications in Adobe Photoshop software.
15th Week Advanced applications in Adobe Photoshop software.
16th Week Project presentations and evaluations.
