At the end of this course, the students; 1) Recognizes, defines and discusses the concept of communication with its different dimensions, 2) Knows the relationship between communication and ideology; develops an awareness of the ideological structure of the tools and methods used while communicating, 3) Learns the relationship between language and sexism; become conscious of cultural myths and linguistic structures, have the necessary background equipment. 4) Gains perspective on mass communication and its cultural functions; will be able to design an effective and effective communication process.

COURSE DEFINITION
The aim of this course is to inform students about the basic concepts, theories and discussions of communication; so ?correct? and ?purposeful? is to establish a frame of reference that will enable them to design communication processes.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week
Introduction and general information about the course. Discussion on key topics: What is Communication? Why do people want to communicate? What do we actually do by communicating? What does communicating do to us? The act of communication is based on what basic elements? What is the purpose of existence of a communication designer?
2nd Week
Information and discussion about communication types (written, verbal and nonverbal communication) and forms (internal, relational, group, organizational and mass communication).
3rd Week
The relationship between society, culture, ideology and communication. What is ideology? What is false consciousness? How is ideology manifested in the types and forms of communication? Is the word ideological? Speech-action theory. The link between discourse and ideology.
4th Week
Language as a means of communication. Language and gender relationship. The role of ideology in the construction of language and cultural myths. Myths, verbal violence and communication.
5th Week
Overview of communication models.
6th Week
Communication Theories I: Information and discussion about mainstream/traditional theories.
7th Week
Communication Theories II: Information and discussion about critical theories.
8th Week
Midterm
9th Week
Mass communication and technological determinism.
10th Week
Mass communication and political economy. How do we create consent?
11th Week
Mass communication and propaganda techniques. Rhetoric as the basis of persuasion.
12th Week
Mass communication and cultural studies. Discussion on the concepts of representation and construction in communication.
13th Week
Mass communication and reception. What do we do with the messages sent to us?
