LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Understanding an approach that can blend innovative methods and techniques of metal cutting with conventional methods and can select the best.
2) Recognition of methods that can achieve energy efficiency and material savings in metal cutting.
3) Sufficiency in design and use of machine tools.

COURSE DEFINITIONCutting theory; basic orthogonal cutting mechanics, measurement of tool forces, plowing force, Ernst and Merchant Theory, friction, tool life and tool wear, cutting economics, cutting fluids and their effects on cutting, cutting tool temperature and calculations. Cutting force, power, machining time calculations and machining parameters, cutting velocity, feed rate, depth of cut-in turning, drilling boring, shaping, planing, milling operations. Coordinate systems of CNC machines. Machine-Computer interface. DNC, CNC and AC Technologies. Programming techniques for CNC, NC machines.
