LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) To have knowledge about economics issues in order to understand the effects of engineering solutions in global and aggregate economies.
2) To have information about contemporary economic problems.
3) Understands the basic principles of macroeconomics.
4) Explain the causes of economic problems and form economic models.
5) Interpret finance and monetary policies.

COURSE DEFINITIONBasic concepts of economics. Demand and supply models and the market equilibrium, elasticities of demand and supply and their uses, the theory of consumer behavior and demand, the theory of firm behavior and supply, the interaction of people in the markets, costs and the changes of firms over time, oligopoly and product differentiation, monopoly, monopolistic competition, antitrust policy and regulation, labor markets, taxes, transfers and income distribution.
