At the end of this course, the students; 1) Learn how the childhood and adolescence disorders are defined and their basic criteria. 2) Learn the etiological mechanisms of the childhood and adolescence disorders. 3) Learn the assessment process of childhood and adolescence disorders. 4) Learn the treatment process and basic applications for childhood and adolescence disorders.

COURSE DEFINITION | This course explores issues relating to diagnosis, treatment, research methods and ethics in relation to child and adolescent psychopathology. Initially, neural development of the human nervous system is introduced in the course. Next, a broad range of neurodevelopmental disorders including autism, dyslexia, specific language impairment, developmental coordination disorder, sensory impairments, ADHD and Williams?s syndrome are covered. The implications of theories of neurodevelopmental disorders for understanding of normal cognitive functions are also explained throughout the course. After completing the course, the students are expected to have a detailed knowledge about various neurodevelopmental disorders. |
